PROGRAM

 

 1st DAY Arrival at the airport in Bari, meeting with tour leader/ interpreter. Transfer by bus towards the Ionian Coast sea. Guided tour to Metaponto archaeological Park and its museum, that preserve treasures and testaments of Magna Graecia. The tour continues to Policoro in the ruins of the ancient town Heraclea. Short walk along the promenade. Accommodation in ***/**** hotel along the coast. Dinner and overnight in hotel;

2nd DAY Breakfast in hotel and departure for Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019 and beginning of Sassi (UNESCO site) guided tour. Visit to the Casa Grotta and to the typical craft shops. Lunch in a typical restaurant, panoramic walk on the Gravina to admire the rocky landscape. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight;

 

3rd DAY Breakfast in hotel and departure for a guided visit to Calanchi: wind-drawn unique landscapes. It continues to Montalbano Jonico. Once the old town is passed, we will reach some panoramic points, from which Calanchi’s charming geomorphological shapes, rounding Moltalbano Jonico, could be admired. Here the leader will illustrate you the main geological and naturalistic aspects, which earned the recognition of Special Natural Reserve. “Calanchi Museum” is also free to visit from 2017, which collects a comprehensive collection of fossils that can be found among Montalbano clays. The tour ends at Piazza Mulino Belvedere, overlooking on one of the most suggestive area in Calanchi Regional Reserve. Here the leader will illustrate you the main geological and naturalistic aspects, which earned the recognition of Special Natural Reserve. Lunch in typical restaurant based on good cuisine from Basilicata. In the afternoon, we will reach Craco, the ghost village, which has been chosen as location of important film sets because of its unusual landscape. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight;

 

4th DAY Breakfast and transfer by bus to Bari and departure with a scheduled flight for the return. End of services.
