PROGRAMMA

 

 1st DAY Arrival at the airport in Bari/Brindisi or by bus. Meeting with tour leader/interpreter. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight in Lecce/surroundings

 

2nd DAY Breakfast in hotel and departure for a visit to Otranto and its wonderful old town, enriched by the splendid Cathedral in which there is the well-preserved byzantine mosaic. In the end, departure for S. Maria di Leuca, going through the beautiful east coast. Guided visit to the horse stables in Villa La Meridiana (with the original stoned floor, the ancient mangers, a wagon for bread), cooking lesson in the stables (“Le mani in pasta”: “sagne torte”, “orecchiette”, “minchiareddhi”, “maritati”, “tria”), rosoli and ratafia tasting (prickly pears, roses, mandarin oranges…) selected by “La Dispensa di Caroli”: guided visit of any exhibitions in progress in Villa La Meridiana stables. On request and upon availability, extraordinary opening of Villa La Meridiana and free guided tour of gardens and main floor with floor mosaics, the ancient but perfectly working “economic kitchen”, the “lovers’ stairs”, the circular terrace, the solar clock, the drinking trough for birds, the dovecote, the “bagnarola”. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

 

3rd DAY Breakfast in hotel and departure for Gallipoli with its picturesque seaside village. Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon, the tour continues to Ostuni. Visit to the White City, so defined because its houses have the characteristic colour of lime, creating a unique contrast of colours among the intense light blue of the sky and sea, not very far. The Cathedral, symbol of the city, is in Gothic style and dates back to the late 15th century. In the square, on the both sides of the cathedral, there are historic and worthy of note buildings, like Palazzo Vescovile and Palazzo del Seminario. In the evening, return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

 

4th DAY Breakfast in hotel and departure for Lecce “the South’s baroque Florence”. Guided visit of the city. Among the many attractions, Piazza del Duomo, the medieval Church of SS. Nicolò and Cataldo, the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre. Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon, free time at your disposal to admire independently the locations. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

5th DAY Breakfast and transfer to Bari/Brindisi apt for the departure by plane or by bus.
